Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community situated in the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal However, in reality this part of West Island is home to every aspect of the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. She initially wanted to become an actress, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners were no longer able to dance with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet 1 inches." When I reached the height of the size of my male friends then I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who led her in the right direction. It was her teacher who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2000. The career of Brugel spans more than twenty years, and she's been in over 60 productions, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor for the season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
